Descripción Del Trabajo
Description
Ever wondered what it takes to build Amazon's massive global network and how we make sure every dollar spent on construction delivers maximum value?
We're looking for a Senior Cost Engineering Manager who will own cost engineering on large-scale construction projects and help shape the future of AI-powered cost intelligence. This isn't a back-office analytics role. You'll be influencing multi-million-dollar supplier negotiations, presenting to senior leadership, and supporting the building of tools that will transform how Amazon Global Procurement Organization models, negotiates, and manages construction costs worldwide.
Construction is one of our largest and most complex procurement categories. Every project is different. Unique site conditions, local labor markets, permit requirements, and material constraints mean that each costing cycle demands a fresh bottom-up deep dive: decomposing cost structures, stress-testing assumptions against local market realities, and building analytics that reflect the true cost drivers of that specific build. You'll bring deep construction industry expertise and pair it with a forward-looking mindset, co-creating AI-driven tools that scale your impact far beyond individual projects.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end should-costing on large-scale construction projects by reverse engineering supplier pricing to determine the true cost of constituent parts, labor, manufacturing, assemblies, overheads, and expected profit margins
- Build reliable bottom-up cost models that simulate the industry benchmark with fact-based calculations, serving as anchoring price targets in negotiation
- Challenge supplier quotations with rigorous technical analysis, forcing transparency into supply chain cost structures and driving meaningful cost reductions
- Present should-cost findings and recommendations to senior leadership, acting as a trusted internal consultant on construction cost matters
- Co-develop AI-powered costing tools and feed scalable datasets alongside our AI & MI solutions team
- Coordinate with other Sourcing Excellence pillars and Capabilities (e.g., Value Engineering, Construction Cost Estimation, Market Intelligence) across multiple regions as we expand our global should-costing footprint
- Establish and evolve should-cost methodologies during design and specification phases, collaborating with category managers, engineers, and construction teams
- Advise stakeholders on cost impacts of specification changes and identify design-to-cost opportunities with suppliers, working closely with Value Engineering team
- Define KPIs and scorecard metrics (e.g., gap-to-should-cost) that track supplier cost performance and strengthen long-term partnerships rooted in fairness and mutual understanding
- Drive change management as you introduce new costing approaches across procurement and the supply base
About the team
Cost Engineering answers one fundamental question for Amazon: Are we paying the right price? We combine deep technical expertise with advanced analytical methodologies (should-cost modeling, market intelligence, and cost driver decomposition) to deliver transparent, fact-based insights that empower procurement teams to negotiate with confidence. Our vision is to make cost transparency a strategic capability across the organization, ensuring every procurement decision reflects what something should cost, not just what the market offers. We cover billions in managed spend across Amazon Global Procurement Organization with cost engineering, driven by exponential growth since the team formation in 2022.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements
- Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
- Experience being responsible/leading large and complex negotiations
- Demonstrated supply chain experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree, or MBA in business, operations, human resources, adult education, organizational development, instructional design or related field
- AI & Automation: Experience in leveraging AI, machine learning, or advanced analytics to improve cost modeling, automate procurement workflows, or build scalable datasets. You don't need to be a data scientist, but you should be comfortable working alongside AI teams, curating training data from real-world projects, validating model outputs, and identifying where intelligent automation can multiply your impact. A track record of enabling (not just consuming) AI tools in a procurement or engineering context is a strong differentiator.
Amazon is an equal opportunities employer. We believe passionately that employing a diverse workforce is central to our success. We make recruiting decisions based on your experience and skills. We value your passion to discover, invent, simplify and build. Protecting your privacy and the security of your data is a longstanding top priority for Amazon. Please consult our Privacy Notice ( ) to know more about how we collect, use and transfer the personal data of our candidates.
Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. If you have a disability and need a workplace accommodation or adjustment during the application and hiring process, including support for the interview or onboarding process, please visit for more information. If the country/region you're applying in isn't listed, please contact your Recruiting Partner.

Descripción Del Trabajo
Description
Amazon builds fast and behind every new Fulfilment Center, Sortation Center, and Delivery Station is a cost estimate that had to be accurate, defensible, and ready when decisions need to be made. We're looking for a Cost Engineering Manager who will deliver construction cost engineering services to Amazon's North America Design & Construction stakeholders producing the estimates, cost models, and analytical outputs that inform capital investment decisions across Amazon's NA infrastructure network.
This role is high-impact, high-variety, and technically engaging. You'll deliver a range of estimates across a diverse portfolio of NA building types and project scopes, from multi-site retrofit programs to one-off capital projects, where site conditions, design parameters, and scope ambiguity make every engagement a unique analytical challenge. You'll partner with cross-functional teams from early concept sketches through bid-ready construction documents, combining construction domain expertise with collaborative problem-solving to produce cost intelligence that directly shapes business outcomes.
The core deliverable is construction cost estimates, and the role is within Amazon's Global Procurement Organization, Sourcing Excellence pillar, which means you'll also have the opportunity to expand into broader cost engineering disciplines: should-cost modeling that anchors supplier negotiations, and value engineering initiatives that challenge specifications and drive design-to-cost outcomes. You will work closely with AI and Market Intelligence Solutions, leveraging AI-powered tools daily to accelerate analysis, build scalable costing datasets, and contribute to the development of next-generation automation that multiplies the team's reach.
Key job responsibilities
- Deliver independent, bottom-up construction cost estimates for NA Design & Construction stakeholders across Amazon's building portfolio: spanning retrofit, expansion, and new-build scopes across multiple building types and network segments
- Develop cost estimates from early-stage concept inputs through RFP-ready construction drawing sets, adapting methodology and analytical depth to available information at each project phase
- Build and maintain programmatic estimating templates for multi-site programs (such as interior renovations, mechanical system replacements) where scope consistency allows template-driven efficiency
- Produce one-off bottom-up estimates for projects where unique site conditions, non-standard design, and scope ambiguity demand deep analytical judgment (such as automation retrofits, site hardening, ad-hoc retrofit requests)
- Generate high-level ROMs for early-stage project exploration when data is limited and design direction is still evolving
- Leverage AI-powered tools as a default part of your workflow; using automation for data gathering, cost benchmarking, and pattern recognition while applying expert judgment on complex, ambiguous scopes
- Contribute to the development of scalable AI solutions by curating project data, validating model outputs, and identifying where automation can absorb routine estimation work
- Collaborate with preconstruction managers, design engineers, and category managers to gather site-specific inputs, validate assumptions, and communicate cost risks
- Peer review estimates and cost models produced by teammates to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with current market pricing
- Maintain and update cost data libraries as required with latest market bids, labor rates, and material pricing to keep cost intelligence grounded in reality
- Over time, expand into should-cost modeling, benchmarking, and value engineering activities on construction projects as part of the broader Cost Engineering services within Sourcing Excellence pillar

- Experience as an Architect, Engineer, Construction Manager, Development Manager, Owner's project management representative or in other Commercial Development and Construction related disciplines
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating within at least two disciplines within the construction industry, such as Contracting, Owners Representation, Architecture, Design and Engineering, Commercial Development, analysis and control of construction costs or similar
- Experience in project management in construction and contracts management
- AI&Automation: Comfortable working with AI and automation as a default part of your workflow, not as an experiment, but as how things get done. You should be willing to use AI-powered tools for cost benchmarking, estimating, modelling and pattern recognition, curate project data to feed scalable models, validate automated outputs with expert judgment, and identify where automation can absorb routine work so you can focus on the complex and ambiguous. Experience contributing to AI tool development in an estimating or procurement context is a strong differentiator.
- Experience managing structured cost data and supporting back-end estimation workflows: organizing inputs, maintaining cost libraries, and ensuring data integrity across project portfolios.
